Ok…so I have to admit “I have an addiction” …to peanut butter granola bars that is! My addiction is costing this family over $300 a year so its time to get with a program that helps me fight my need for these yummy treats. It really doesn’t matter when I have them it can be at breakfast, for a late night snack, to comfort a lonely sole or even to enjoy with a cup of tea in the middle of the day or for no reason at all.

My cupboards are pretty stocked due to my new shopping methods so I have everything I need at my finger tips to make anything I need. So off to shop my cupboards to come up with a recipe for an easy peanut butter granola bar recipe that would save us $6 I spend every week on my addiction.
These were so easy to make that I can see my self making them every week and the best part they are not filled with any ingredients that I can’t even pronounce let alone know what they are. So here is my version of a yummy peanut butter granola bar.:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup all natural peanut butter
2 cups rice krispy cereal
2 cups quick oatmeal
1/4 cup ground flax seed
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
Directions:
Mix rice krispy cereal, oatmeal and flax seed in a bowl and set aside. In a small pan mix honey and brown sugar and cook over medium heat until sugar is totally dissolved, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in peanut butter.
Remove from heat and pour over cereal mixture and mix well. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
Butter a 9 x 13 pan. Pour mixture in the pan and with buttered hand press firmly into the pan. Let cool and cut into bars.
By the time I had washed up the dishes and got a couple loafs of bread raising the bars were ready to cut and I got to enjoy my peanut butter granola bars with my morning coffee. So in the end I really didn’t have to give up my addiction, I just had to find an more economical way to enjoy them.
Enjoy!
